Feed Orissa - Feeding the poor

FEED ORISSA, is a relief programme in the State of Orissa for those dying of starvation and tuberculosis. The relief project which was launched in July 2001 in the Bargarh District of Orissa is a landmark in Blessing Youth Mission’s history.

Thousands are being ministered to. Many eat one meal a day and many starve to death. Now they are being sought out and rice, dal and oil are distributed to them in a monthly bais. the naked being clothed. Often more than one member in a family suffer from tuberculosis. Sometimes three or four. They cannot afford treatment. Because of corruption they have to pay for the DOTS treatment. They sell their cattle and take half the treatment and then discontinue for want of any more money. They were treated in our clinic.

Many are rendered homeless by poverty and natural disasters like floods. Under the Feed Orissa Project more than hundred houses have been built. Malnutrition is an everyday problem here. You can see women weighing 25Kgs and three year olds crawling and unable to walk due to malnutrition. Now they have hope. Medical camps have seen thousands blessed. Through eye camps many blind due to catract have received sight. Many who have gone on with surgical problems have been operated upon.

Rehabilitation is an important aspect. The jobless are taught a skill or a shop set up for them or given goats. Poor students are helped. The project has bought smiles to the faces of thousands and thousands of poor. We give all the glory to God!
